Bee Box compared with OpenClaw

OpenClaw is a self-hosted personal-assistant gateway: one always-on process routes messages from around thirty chat platforms (WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, and more) to one or more AI agents, each with its own persona files and memory. Bee Box is a personal assistant built around a box: one directory, kept under version control with a full history of changes (using git), holding cards (files with a structured header and a markdown body) that a coding agent reads and writes.

Where they are similar. Both are built for a single trusted operator rather than a multi-tenant product. Both load a small always-resident instruction file plus detail fetched on demand, and both run a periodic background pass that turns a chat history into durable, revisable memory (OpenClaw's "dreaming"; Bee Box's retro).

Where they differ. OpenClaw owns its own agent loop and can talk to many model providers with automatic failover; Bee Box has no loop of its own and runs entirely on Claude Code or Codex, with no fallback if that provider is unavailable. OpenClaw treats every external system, including email, as a chat channel; Bee Box treats email, calendar, and files as typed cards, and only its Telegram connector is a real two-way conversation. OpenClaw can route one gateway to several distinct agent personas; a Bee Box box holds one agent.
